Benjamin Franklin Liddell III was born on March 30, 1946 in Columbus, MS. Liddell identified as a Methodist, attending Methodist church in Columbus. He entered the military on September 21, 1965. He went to Fort Jackson in South Carolina which is a U.S. Army Training Center. He stayed there for Basic Combat Training until November 15, 1965 in which he transferred to Fort Gordon in Georgia for Advanced Individual Training. After leaving Advanced Individual Training, he was in route to Vietnam where he later died in the Battle of Trung Luong.
Liddell was the son of Benjamin Franklin Liddell Jr. and Marian Kathleen Bowman Gomez. Benjamin Liddell Jr. was born October 18, 1922 in New Albany, Mississippi and died May 1, 2009 in Pensacola, Florida. Liddell was a US Army veteran of World War II. He enlisted in the military on November 12, 1942 and was released on February 9, 1946. He and his wife Kathleen were married 42 years before her death in 1986. Before Benjamin Franklin Liddell III went to Vietnam, he married Parthenia Beasley and they had one daughter and one son. Parthenia died on February 15, 1995. The son they had together is unknown.
